# Widgets

> A widget is a table, card, form or chart an agent shows in a conversation, filled with data each time.

Builders work from a coding agent and operators from an AI client, both through the MCP server, or in the Studio. In Mindset, an agent is a prompt and a model, held to an order by a script when needed. It uses connections to outside systems, operations on them, functions and widgets. Every change is a version, and every execution is a run. Every piece sits on one security and compliance layer: the org sets its posture once, and every agent works under it, with the audit trail and, once an admin turns it on, personal data redaction. The platform runs in your own cloud (AWS, GCP or Azure) or is hosted by Mindset. Your app reaches agents through the SDK, your server through the API, and people through the Hub and schedules. Highlighted: Widget.

A **widget** is a piece of interface an [agent](https://docs.mindset.ai/docs/agents) shows in a conversation: a table, a summary card, a form or a chart. You design it once, and the agent fills it with data each time. Its parameters tell the agent what to supply, and Mindset refuses data in the wrong shape.

For the invoice exceptions agent, a widget can show the invoice lines next to the purchase order lines, with each difference marked.

## Why it matters

Every conversation shows the same layout, and data in the wrong shape never reaches the screen.

## Built in

Every agent can show these without a widget:

| Tool | Shows |
| -------------- | -------------------------------------------------------- |
| `render_chart` | A bar, line or pie chart from numbers the agent supplies |
| `show_table` | A sortable table |
| `show_callout` | One highlighted box: info, success, warning or danger |
| `show_ui` | One small card, badge or headline number |

> **Info:** Mindset offers these only when a person is watching the conversation and driving it, so a scheduled run gets none.

Build a widget when you want the same layout every time.

**Live demo:** [Widget round trip](https://docs.mindset.ai/demos/kettle). The agent offers a grind picker in the chat, and your tap changes the coffee page in reply.

## Versions

A conversation always shows the widget's active version, so a published change reaches conversations already in progress on their next turn. An agent version records which widgets the agent uses, not which version of each.

To build one, see [Show a widget](https://docs.mindset.ai/docs/build-a-widget). To draw it in your own interface, see [Use your own UI](https://docs.mindset.ai/docs/use-your-own-ui).
